January 1, 2026
Shalom Chaverim (Dear Friends),
As we collectively turn the calendar and begin a new year together, I hope you all have many good memories from 2025. Each of us experiences many ups and downs over the course of a twelve-month period – it’s part of life. My wish for all of us is that 2026 is full of far more ups than downs, many meaningful connections, good health and happiness. I hope it’s the best year yet for all of us!
Here at the Adolph & Rose Levis JCC, the calendar remains full of wonderful ways for people of all ages to connect with one another and with the broader community via our variety of programs. Participants in our Dale & Filhaber Mini Camp at the J and in our Helene & Roy Schwedelson Special Needs Department’s Camp Kavod enjoyed ringing in the New Year together at fun-filled DJ dance parties. Our campers have made the most of their school Winter Break time with non-stop fun at our Levis JCC winter camps.
What better way to celebrate new beginnings than through uplifting song? This afternoon, our Levis JCC Phyllis & Harvey Sandler Center warmly welcomed music loving members of the community to enjoy “Tap into Soul” with Solomon Jaye, America’s premiere tap-dancing soul singer – it really was a joyful way to spend New Year’s Day! If you missed it, there’s another opportunity to experience live music on Saturday evening, when we proudly present “Israeli Songfest” with Israeli-American vocalist Gilad Paz (seen on America’s Got Talent). Come sing along! Some tickets are still available – call the Box Office at 561-558-2520 or purchase online.
This week's Torah portion is Vayechi (And He Lived) in the book of Genesis, the first in the Five Books of Moses. In it, before his passing, Joseph conveys to the Children of Israel the testament from which they will draw their hope and faith in the difficult years to come: “G d will surely remember you and bring you up out of this land to the land of which He swore to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.” And today we continue to draw strength from that promise as we continue to defend our homeland.
Light Shabbat candles Friday evening at 5:23 pm.
Shabbat ends Saturday evening at 6:18 pm.
Shabbat Shalom
Am Yisrael Chai!
