Description

The Art of Making the Shoe With Kobi Levi, Israeli shoe designer January 9 Israeli Guest Artist-in-Residence Kobi Levi shares the technical challenges of taking inspiration and transforming it into a wearable piece of art—a shoe. A graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Art & Design in Jerusalem with a specialization in footwear design and development, Kobi Levi’s inspiration for a new design originates from a simple concept or image and then the shoe becomes his canvas. Passion & Zeal: Artists as Advocates With Madeline Siegel, Boca Raton Museum of Art docent January 23 Artists have a unique opportunity to create artwork that provides observation, commentary and advocacy on humanity and the world in which they live. This lively presentation centers on narrative artworks that communicate a story or message. The lecture investigates dynamic works in the Boca Raton Museum of Art’s Permanent Collection. Topics include the environment, addiction, honor and other social/political issues. Discover the artwork of Andy Warhol, Georges Rouault, Sebastião Salgado, Patrick Nagatani, Yasuo Kuniyoshi and others. The Art of Block and Linocut Printing With Bill Farran, artist and historian February 6 Linocut artist Bill Farran shares the story of the art of linocut and block printing--working in reverse-- creating “what I leave behind” prints. An ancient method of printing which originated with the Chinese, block printing is the art of relief cuts using wood. When Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso started using linoleum in the early 1900s, its popularity grew. Farran’s talent with the medium, carving in reverse and then hand printing each piece, and his passion for his subject, the wooden synagogues of Eastern Europe and their importance in Jewish cultural history, combines his love of history, geography, Jewish genealogy and art in a compelling presentation of this intriguing art form. The Magic Moment: The Miracle of Photography With Fred Rosenberg, photographer and speaker March 6 Photographer and historian Fred Rosenberg explores a subject that is captivating, the history unique—the story of the invention of photography and its impact on world affairs, specifically in the 20th century—as ground-breaking and exciting as the legends of Buck Rogers or Dick Tracy and as gripping as a good mystery novel.
