Shalom Chaverim (Dear Friends),
This Shabbat message is coming to you just after the Indiana Hoosiers beat our very own Miami Hurricanes, securing their first-ever College Football Playoff National Championship after playing a perfect season. The victory comes after years of struggle and a remarkable turnaround that the champions should be very proud of.
Here at your Adolph & Rose Levis JCC, we continue to celebrate our own successful season of community programs and events!
On Tuesday, our Judy Levis Krug Boca Raton Jewish Film Festival® – proudly celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year – unveiled the film lineup for its 2026 edition. Film buffs enjoyed seeing trailers and clips for the films that will be screened during our two-week festival, February 7 – 22. If you missed the Lineup Reveal, there’s a second showing next Wednesday at our Levis JCC. Admission is free and first come, first served. Information is online at bocajff.org.
Our Helene & Roy Schwedelson Special Needs Department’s Project L.I.F.E participants continue to enjoy learning, building friendships, and developing their skills. This week they have been enjoying community service projects in and around our beautiful campus, volunteering at the Toby & Leon Cooperman Sinai Residences, our Levis JCC Resale Boutique and our Levis JCC Betty & Marvin Zale Early Childhood Learning Center. On Monday, January 12, they ventured out on a long-awaited field trip to the Bulk Candy Store for a guided tour and tasting experience – a sweet treat and a big hit for all!
Registration opened for our Levis JCC Betty & Marvin Zale Early Childhood Learning Center’s 2026-2027 school year. Secure your spot today! Learn more at levisjcc.org/early/registration.
Our Levis JCC Marleen Forkas Camps team works all year long to present outstanding camp experiences each summer (which will be here before we know it!). Our fantastic Camp at the J team is hiring! They are another amazing summer and are looking for equally amazing counselors, CITs, specialists, lifeguards, and more. If you know someone looking for a fun summer job, reach out to our Camp Director, Jason Tomaszewski, at JasonT@levisjcc.org.
This week's Torah portion is Bo (Come) in Exodus, the second in the Five Books of Moses. In it, the children of Israel are commanded to wear tefillin as a reminder of their commitment to G-d, and are given the holiday of Passover, a week-long celebration in which they should remove all leavened bread from their homes, eat matzah, and tell their children the story of their redemption. Now, all these thousands of years later, we at your Levis JCC are embarking on an Exodus of our own as we prepare to temporarily vacate our building from April–October as we begin a major renovation on our 35-year-old facility. And just as the Exodus marked both an ending and a beginning, we move forward with excitement for what’s to come and pride in all that our community has accomplished thus far.
Light Shabbat candles Friday evening at 5:38 pm.
Shabbat ends Saturday evening at 6:34 pm.
Shabbat Shalom
Am Yisrael Chai!
