Shalom Chaverim (Dear Friends),

This past week, Lori and I received a visit from our son, Noah, and his fiancée Patricia. I was so proud to have them join us on Saturday night for the Adolph & Rose Levis Jewish Community Center's Jeans Jewels & the J – Sparkles & Spurs event. This year we are thrilled to report a record turnout of 387 participants at this very special annual celebration of our Levis JCC. They also joined us on Monday night at the Levis JCC Sandler Center to enjoy great music by Bernstein, Gershwin and Sondheim presented by Aaron Kula and his great group of musicians.

February is Jewish Disability Awareness, Acceptance & Inclusion Month, and it is a great opportunity to mention our Levis JCC’s outstanding special needs programming presented by our Helene & Roy Schwedelson Special Needs Department. I invite you to learn more about these programs here.

February is full of exciting arts, culture & learning events, including the ArgenTenors on Sunday, February 11, at 1:00 pm at our Levis JCC Sandler Center. These four Argentinian Hazzanim are Gaston Bogomolni from Florida, Pablo Duek from Los Angeles, Elias Rosemberg from Boston, and Ari Litvak from Mexico. The concert will feature a melody of Jewish music from around the world mixed with Latin, Opera, Cantorial, Broadway, Humor and more. On Monday, February 12, at 3:00pm there is “1924: The Gershwins’ Magical Year with Charles Troy, A Centennial Celebration” of “Rhapsody in Blue” with Pianist Aaron Orin performing LIVE “Rhapsody in Blue.” Learn more about these and many other events here.

This week’s Torah portion is Yitro (Jethro) in the book of Exodus, the second of the Five Books of Moses. In it, Jethro advises Moses to appoint a hierarchy of magistrates and judges to assist him in the task of governing and administering justice to the people. At our Levis JCC, as in communal life, it takes a village to build and sustain a vibrant community.
