Shalom Chaverim (Dear Friends),

With Purim next week, and Passover on the horizon, it’s a time of celebration! Some of my family from the west coast of Florida are coming into town to spend a few days with us, adding to the steady flow of visitors Lori and I have been blessed to welcome over the past month.

Our Adolph & Rose Levis Jewish Community Center leadership and staff were so excited to celebrate the kickoff of our Judy Levis Krug Boca Raton Jewish Film Festival (JLKBRJFF) with our “Cinebash” Patron Festival Kickoff Event this past Tuesday evening at The Polo Club of Boca Raton. Our Guest Speaker, noted local professor and historian Dr. Robert Watson presented “The Nazi Titanic,” a premiere screening of an episode of “Forgotten Frontlines” to a sold-out crowd of nearly 200 patrons. This event is the unofficial beginning of our nearly month-long Festival, and I hope you will join us to enjoy some (or all!) of these remarkable films. The multi-access Festival features 80 films selected from more than 700 films by our dedicated Screening Committee, and will run from March 5 – 26. Our JLKBRJFF, considered one of the largest and longest Jewish/Israeli film festivals in the country, features diverse in-theater feature-length films, documentaries, shorts, special guest appearances and more.

This week’s Torah portion is Tetzaveh (Command) in the book of Exodus, the second in the Five Books of Moses. In it, G-d tells Moses to receive pure olive oil from the children of Israel to feed the eternal flame of the menorah, which Aaron is to light each day from evening until morning.

The joy of spending time with family that feeds our souls on a personal basis, and Levis JCC programming including the Judy Levis Krug Boca Raton Jewish Film Festival nourishes our minds and hearts, while and keeping us connected to our shared heritage, our broader community, and to one another.

Light candles Friday night at 6:05 pm.
Shabbat ends Saturday night at 6:58 pm.

Shabbat Shalom,
