Shalom Chaverim (Dear Friends),

Today, our son Noah and his beautiful family returned to Arizona after spending such a wonderful week together. From a visit to Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, beach time in Delray, and lots of time in our pool, we soaked up quality family time eating great food and watching season six of Cobra Kai together. Though it’s always so very hard to say L’hitraot (till next we meet), we are so looking forward to our next family visit – this time with our daughter Danielle, her husband Colin and our granddaughter, Emi Lou. We will be spending that time on Siesta Key beach in Sarasota, which was home for us for 13 glorious years. We can’t wait!

Our Adolph & Rose Levis JCC’s Marleen Forkas Summer Camps are about to end another fantastic summer. Week eight came much too fast! It’s been a summer of friends, fun, and lots of adventures. Each of our camp programs offered exceptional programs tailor–made for the various age groups and interests.

When this fantastic Levis JCC program concludes each year, it is always bittersweet. We’re very happy to be able to continue the fun in the weeks before schools begin with our Dale & Ed Filhaber Mini Camp at the J, offered the weeks of August 5th and 12th. Children entering Kindergarten through 5th grade will participate in swimming, sports, arts & crafts and more. Spots are still available – register online here.

This week’s double Torah portion is Matot (Tribes) - Massei (Journeys) in the book of Numbers, the 4th in the Five Books of Moses. In it, the forty-two journeys and encampments of Israel are listed, from the Exodus to their encampment on the plains of Moab across the river from the land of Canaan. My career is now in its 38th year, getting pretty close to those 42 journeys the Israelites made. In all those years, nothing is ever quite as fulfilling or as exciting as summer camp. Complete with Israel Week, Color War, ruach and the spirit of Am Yisrael Chai, nobody does summer camp quite like a JCC!
