August 22, 2024
Shalom Chaverim (Dear Friends),
The dog days of August are quickly coming to an end. It’s certainly not too soon for me as this is about the time of year when the Florida summers of 90-100 degree temperatures with near 70% humidity become tedious, and yet we know that we still have 2 more months of brutally hot and humid weather to go. After 15 years in Florida in total, one would think I’d be used to the furnace like summer weather here. As August winds down and I look forward to the possibility of cooler days ahead, it also means the beginning of another exciting season at the Levis JCC.
One of the areas that continues to grow at our Levis JCC is community engagement, and this year we’ve lined up a variety of events for you to connect with us both on and off campus. This past Monday we had a fabulous turnout at our second Mitzvah Mingle event for Jewish singles in their 40s, 50s and 60s. The group enjoyed meeting, mingling and working on a meaningful and purposeful mitzvah project by working with Lasagna Love to assemble lasagnas for those less fortunate. On Tuesday, August 27th we will welcome Mayor Scott Singer, Mayor of Boca Raton, as the Special Guest Speaker at our JBiz Business Networking Event at Farmer’s Table. In September, join us for Eastside Pop Up Happy Hour at AlleyCat on the 5th and Ladies’ Night Out Tablescaping with Atlas Event Rental Co. on the 10th. Plus, we’re introducing a new event series, North End Pop Up Happy Hour, which will be presented in West Boca Raton and north throughout Delray Beach. Our first event is September 24th at Terra Fiamma in Delray Marketplace. We hope to see you at one or all of our upcoming engagement events. View our calendar here or contact Ilana Ducorsky at ilanad@levisjcc.org for more information.
This week’s Torah portion is Eikev (Because) in Deuteronomy, the 5th in the 5 books of Moses. In it, Moses admonishes the Israelites to beware lest they become haughty and begin to believe that “my power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.” At the Levis JCC, we recognize the importance of engaging with our community so together we can work towards continued growth both personally and professionally.
Light Shabbat Candles on Friday night at 7:31 pm
