Shalom Chaverim (Dear Friends),
Our Adolph & Rose Levis Jewish Community Center leadership and staff had very heavy hearts this week. Many of us paid our respects to beloved Levis JCC community leader and philanthropist Nina Rosenzweig, who passed away last Thursday. It has been comforting to know that even as many of us came together in sadness, over the past few days, there has been so much happening at our Adolph & Rose Levis JCC that lifts us up, connects us, and helps strengthen our community.
This week was full of many ways our Center enriches people’s lives. On Tuesday, avid filmgoers enjoyed a screening of “Ask Dr. Ruth.” The documentary about Dr. Ruth Westheimer, a Holocaust survivor who became America’s most famous sex therapist, was part of our Judy Levis Krug Boca Raton Jewish Film Festival’s Emily & Neil Kishter Year Round Film Programs. That same evening, our Levis JCC’s first North End Pop Up Happy Hour event welcomed nearly 50 members of our community to Terra Fiamma at Delray Marketplace in Delray Beach. It was gratifying to see people make new connections and learn about our Levis JCC and how we impact our community through our variety of programs and services. With a strong focus on expanding our Levis JCC’s outreach, we are proud to offer more than 20 Community Engagement events this season. From happy hours to business networking lunches, to family holiday celebrations, there is an event (or a few!) for those looking to connect with our Jewish community and with one another. Learn more online.
Last night, Board member Dana Egert graciously hosted a Directors’ Dinner. The gathering was an opportunity for the Executive lay leadership to further explore their roles for the coming year, set goals seeking ways to continue positively impacting our community through programming, and plan for the growth and expansion of our Levis JCC. I feel so privileged to lead this organization and to work alongside such dedicated and committed community leaders.
This week's double Torah portion is Nitzavim-Vayelech (Standing/Went) in the book of Deuteronomy, the 5th in the Five Books of Moses. In it, Moses reminds the people that G-d has declared that "Life and death I have set before you, blessing and curse. And you shall choose life.”
One of the best things about working in and for the Jewish community is that every day I see how we “choose life.” We continue to find connections with one another and we seek new and exciting ways to help build community. We come together to enjoy meaningful programs. I hope you will find many wonderful ways to “choose life” – at our Levis JCC and in many aspects of your life.
