Shalom Chaverim (Dear Friends),

This week’s message comes to you on the heels of an historic Presidential election. Celebrating our niece’s wedding with our family and friends this weekend will be a welcome break from politics. A family simcha is always a wonderful way to come together, especially one that marks the start of what I hope will be a long and very happy marriage.

Speaking of coming together, that is the essence of what a Jewish Community Center does. Our Adolph & Rose Levis Jewish Community Center has been bringing our community together through a wide variety of programs for more than 40 years. I am pleased to share with you that this week, our professional staff and lay leadership began an important strategic planning process. We have retained the services of a very experienced consultant who visited our Levis JCC and met with a number of key constituent groups to collect critical data that will help identify our organization’s direction for the next 3-5 years. I look forward to sharing more with you about our strategic planning process in the coming weeks and months.

This week’s Torah portion is Lech Lecha (Go Forth) in the book of Genesis, the first in the Five Books of Moses. In it, G-d speaks to Abram, commanding him, “Go from your land, from your birthplace and from your father’s house, to the land which I will show you.” At the Levis JCC, we are also embarking on a journey through our strategic planning process. It is a journey that will help us create a Levis JCC for our future, a JCC built on a strong foundation, and one that continues to bring us all together in community.

Light candles Friday night at 5:15 pm.
Shabbat ends on Saturday night at 6:09 pm.

Shabbat Shalom
Am Yisrael Chai!
