Shalom Chaverim (Dear Friends),

More than one month since the worst attack on Israel since the founding of the state in 1948, Israel continues to defend herself. As war rages on, hostages remain captive. There has been a dramatic rise in antisemitism here in the United States and abroad. Our South Palm Beach Country Jewish community continues to find comfort in coming together for meaningful programming presented by our Adolph & Rose Levis JCC, synagogues, and many other wonderful organizations. Being together in community continues to be a source of comfort and of solidarity with Israel and Jewish people everywhere.

On Monday of this week, more than 250 guests gathered at B’nai Torah Congregation in Boca Raton to enjoy “Farewell Mr. Haffman,” a film program by our Judy Levis Krug Boca Raton Jewish Film Festival presented in partnership with B’nai Torah. The next day, nearly 500 people attended the 32nd Annual Alicia & Jeff Spero Book & Author Luncheon at Boca West Country Club, where they heard from four best-selling authors presenting their latest works. These are just two examples of how our Levis JCC creates meaningful ways for our community to enjoy enriching programming. I want to be sure to note that next week, thousands of people will gather for the National Vigil & Rally for Israel on Tuesday, November 14th at 1:00 pm in Washington, DC. Join your South Palm Beach County Jewish community as we come together to support Israel. Register online here – please note that all participants must make their own travel arrangements.

This week's Torah portion is Chayei Sara (The Life of Sarah) in Genesis, the first book in the Five Books of Moses. In it, Sarah dies at the age of 127 and is buried in the Cave of Machpelah in Hebron, which Abraham buys from Ephron the Hittite for 400 shekels of silver. 4,000 years later, it is vital that we continue to educate people about the deep connection between the Jewish people and the land of Israel.

Light Shabbat candles Friday evening at 5:14 pm.
Shabbat ends Saturday night at 6:09 pm.

Shabbat Shalom
Am Yisrael Chai!
