A Breed Apart; Coming of Age in a Refugee Camp After the Holocaust with Miriam Hoffman Wednesday, February 10, 2:00 pm Yiddish scholar, Columbia University Professor, author, and playwright, Miriam Hoffman will share her perspective on life in the Displaced Persons Camps in Germany, created for the surviving quarter of a million Jewish Refugees in the aftermath of WWII. She describes the highly functional and complex society with a sophisticated social structure that emerged, including governing bodies, political parties, legal, religious, social welfare, medical and educational institutions.
