Event Details

Description

Curator Ricardo J. Conzolez III, nephew of Cuban master sculptor Manuel Carbonell (creator of the Carbonell Award) and executor of Carbonell’s estate, will be our guide for the day. We will have a close-up view of the Brickell Key Collection of Carbonell’s monumental bronze sculptures, including a 21-foot sculpture of a Tequesta Indian. Stops include the lobby of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, the Carbonell condominium and the “warehouse collection” recently opened to the public. Carbonell’s modern works, which can be found in public spaces around the world, usually feature the female form, lovers, and mothers and children. Our afternoon visit to a prominent Florida foundry will offer an in-depth view of the bronze casting process. Special Note: This is a WALKING tour of Brickell Key; participants must be able to walk unassisted.
